People's Summit
New Social Movements spearheaded by civil society (people's movements and NGOs) have been instrumental in forging a people to people forum in South Asian and to enable non-government voices heard at the regional level. South Asia Partnership International (SAP-I) and its member national organizations in Bangladesh, Canada, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, have, for more than 20 years, been promoting regional linkages among civil society organizations for effective human development. The People’s Summit, held annually since 2001, is one of SAP network’s important events providing platform to act on “people’s agenda” of common South Asian issues on which civil society can engage with national governments and regional institutions. While SAARC does not have the mechanism to enable civil society to interact with them, the People’s Summit with its people to people approach helps achieve this objective. ...More

South Asia Small Arms Network (SASA NET) is a civil society network on small arms problems in South Asia. It was founded by over 40 CSO groups in South Asia. The South Asia Small Arms Network (SASA-Net) in cooperation with the members of its network in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, is working towards addressing the issues of small arms proliferation and its impact on people.
